the ciprofloxacin impact on biofilm formation by proteus mirabilis and p. vulgaris strains

چکیده
conclusions minimum biofilm eradication values of ciprofloxacin obtained in the study are close to the values of the minimal inhibition concentration (mic). results all tested strains formed a biofilm. a value of 1.0 μg/ml ciprofloxacin is mbe50 for the strains of both tested species. an mbe90 value of ciprofloxacin for isolates of p. vulgaris was 2 μg/ml and for p. mirabilis was 512 μg/ml. materials and methods a biofilm formation of 20 strains of p. mirabilis and 20 strains of p. vulgaris were evaluated by a spectrophotometric method using 0.1% 2, 3, 5-triphenyl-tetrazolium chloride solution (ttc, avantortm). on the basis of the results of the absorbance of the formazan, a degree of reduction of biofilm and minimum biofilm eradication (mbe) values of mbe50 and mbe90 were determined. background proteus spp. bacilli belong to opportunistic human pathogens, which are primarily responsible for urinary tract and wound infections. an important virulence factor is their ability to form biofilms that greatly reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics in the site of infection. objectives the aim of this study was to determine the value of the minimum concentration of ciprofloxacin that eradicates a biofilm of proteus spp. strains.

PURPOSE Candida albicans (C. albicans) and Proteus species are causative agents in a variety of opportunistic nosocomial infections, and their ability to form biofilms is known to be a virulence factor. In this study, the influence of co-cultivation with Proteus vulgaris (P. vulgaris) and Proteus mirabilis (P. mirabilis) on C. albicans biofilm formation and its underlying mechanisms were examin...
متن کاملPlasmid Pattern of Biofilm Producing Proteus mirabilis and Proteus vulgaris among Clinical Isolates in Kerman University Hospitals during 2011-2012
Background & Aims: Emergence of biofilm producing Proteus strains created a serious problem in the treatment of catheter-associated urinary tract infections. The aim of this research was to study biofilm production and plasmid pattern of proteus strains associated with Urinary tract infection. Methods: A total of 88 strains of Proteus were isolated from samples collected in hospitals of Kerman/...

A bacteriphage typing scheme for differentiating Proteus isolated from clinical specimens was developed. Twenty-one distinct patterns of lysis were seen when 15 bacteriophages isolated on 8 Proteus mirabilis, 1 P. vulgaris, and 1 P. morganii were used to type 162 of 189 (85.7%) P. mirabilis and P. vulgaris isolates. Seven phages isolated on 3 P. morganii were used to type 13 of 19 (68.4%) P. mo...
متن کاملAnalysis of ciprofloxacin and gentamicin diffusion in Proteus mirabilis O18 biofilm by laser interferometry method.
Laser interferometry is a measurement technique used in physical sciences, with a potential for new applications in microbiology. Our previously studies, focused on the quantitative analysis of antibiotics diffusion through membranes or their releasing from gel structure, indicate that this method might be useful in analysis of substances diffusion across the bacterial biofilms. As antibiotic -...
متن کاملBiofilm Formation and Immunomodulatory Activity of Proteus mirabilis Clinically Isolated Strains
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and catheter-associated UTIs (CAUTIs) are the principal hospital-acquired infections. Proteus mirabilis is characterized by several virulence factors able to promote adhesion and biofilm formation and ameliorate the colonization of urinary tract and the formation of crystalline biofilms on the abiotic surface of the urinary catheters. Since, to date, the role of ...
